Event

The meeting location for this trip will depend on weather conditions. Kath will contact you prior to the walk to give you the location.

Join us for a field trip around the Truckee River and the ponds at Idlewild Park. This walk will be mostly flat along paved paths and may end up being as far as three miles, depending on the birding. Expect to see tons of Canada geese and mallards as well as other water lovers, such as mergansers (common and hooded), and maybe even a pair of goldeneyes or wood ducks. Along the shores there will also be plenty of birds to identify.

Event
Join us for a field trip along the Truckee River. We will start near downtown, meeting at the river across from Hub Roasters on Riverside Drive. We will then make our way towards Idlewild Park. From there, we will follow the Crooked Mile walking path along the river for about a mile.

This walk will be mostly flat along paved paths for a total of approximately three miles. We will have a chance to see mergansers, black-crowned night herons, wood ducks, and more!

Event
Meet at Swan Lake Nature Study Area parking lot.

Swan Lake is a birding hot spot that is often overlooked by local birders. Although the boardwalk is in disrepair and unusable, there are plenty of opportunities to look for shorebirds and waterfowl from other areas. Bring your binoculars and a spotting scope if you have one and we will see what we can see. In early November there have been Tundra Swans, American White Pelicans, and numerous other waterfowl. This could be good or it could be a bust. Join me to find out.

Event
This is a beginner's bird walk designed for folks new to birding or just interested in knowing what some of the local birds are. This park is a great local hotspot to find late fall migrants and to learn about Reno's backyard birds. Plan to spend a few hours, so bring binoculars if you have them and maybe some water. Due to COVID-19 safety precautions, this field trip will be limited to just six people.

Location
To get there, take I-80 to the Keystone Exit and head south. Turn right on Second Street, which turns into Dickerson Road, then follow it until it ends at the park. Meet in the Oxbow Park parking lot for this easy nature trail walk.
