Ecuador and Galápagos Birding the Eastern and Central Islands, and the Chocó-Andes Region with Lahontan Audubon Society August 3, 2025 - August 16, 2025
The wildly diverse ecosystems of the Galápagos Islands provide a haven for unique birds and wildlife -- half of their species are found nowhere else in the world. We will be seeking a dazzling array of birds including Magnificent Frigatebirds, Galápagos Penguin, Blue-Footed and Red-Footed Boobies, Red-Billed Tropicbird, Great Flamingo, and many of the 17 species of the famous Darwin finches. Also resident are the marine iguana, Galápagos tortoise, and the Galápagos sea lion, which we will encounter on land and on our private ship.
With more than 850 bird species in the province, the Chocó Andes of Ecuador is one of the top birding areas of the world. Birds regularly encountered from our eco-lodge include Wattled and Sickle-winged Guans, Golden-headed and Crested Quetzals, Masked Trogon, Andean Motmot, Southern Emerald-Toucanet, Powerful and Crimson-mantled Woodpeckers, Speckle-faced Parrot, and Chestnut-crowned and White-bellied Antpittas. We also have the opportunity to search for the elusive spectacled bear on our trip.
Join LAS on this birding tour of a lifetime! An informational Zoom or in-person meeting will be held in early January.
Contact Kath Giel through the form if you are interested in attending or obtaining more information. Registration for this trip closes at the end of January 2025.
