He has a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources from the University of Michigan and has lived in Nevada since 1991 when he and his wife Deb moved to Reno. David was appointed to the Wildlife Commission by Governor Miller in 1994 and served on the Commission as the Conservation representative until 2000. He is currently the President of the Lahontan Audubon Society and leads field trips as well as teaches the introductory class of the Birds of the Truckee Meadows series. STAFF
Jennie Jones Scherbinski
Executive Director Jennie’s passion for wildlife and wild places began at a young age when she began volunteering at a local nature center. Volunteer work led to a career in wildlife research and conservation in which she has worked as an environmental educator, a wildlife rehabilitator, and a biologist with the California Condor Recovery Program. She holds a B.A. in Environmental Biology from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and an M.S. in Wildlife from Humboldt State University. Jennie has a particular interest in engaging new audiences in wildlife conservation through organizing educational programs, developing partnerships, and coordinating volunteer opportunities. Before becoming Executive Director, Jennie previously served as the Development Coordinator VISTA, and accomplished too many projects to list. Jennie is excited part of our full-time team and looking forward to what she can create in the future. |
Parker Flickinger
Communications & Marketing Manager VISTA Parker Flickinger started as our Communications and Marketing Manager back in August of 2022, and is back for a second year. Parker grew up in Northern California, and received a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science from Southern Oregon University. Parker is a true birding enthusiast and routinely contributes checklists to Cornell's eBird citizen science project. His love for birding is only matched by his love for teaching people about birding. He is eager to apply this skill at Lahontan Audubon Society. Before working as a VISTA, Parker previously worked as an AmeriCorps at the American River Conservancy in Placerville, California. When Parker is not involved in bird related projects, he enjoys cooking, hiking, stand-up paddleboarding, appreciating nature, taking in cinema and playing his guitar. |
Diane Wong-Kone
Development Coordinator VISTA When she first arrived in Nevada during the late 1990s, Diane was a traveling bird bander and field biologist working in multiple western states. Once in Nevada, Diane quickly joined Lahontan Audubon Society (LAS) and Great Basin Bird Observatory (GBBO). She worked many years as wildlife biologist for Otis Bay Ecological Consultants, assisting with wetland restoration projects throughout Nevada, and focusing on the lower Truckee River. Simultaneously, Diane collected bird data for GBBO’s Nevada Bird Atlas, Nevada Bird Count, Pyramid/Walker Lake Counts, Desert Thrashers, and Lower Colorado River Riparian Bird Surveys. She has toured Nevada, gotten her car stuck, dug herself out again, and continues to explore and watch all things birdy. If not birding, you may see her around town playing traditional Japanese drums with Reno Taiko and sporting the crane logo designed by LAS’s former President, Ray Nelson. She is proud to serve as your 2022 AmeriCorps VISTA Development Coordinator for LAS. |
