Volunteer Hours
Thank you for your help!

  • Hours should be reported as a decimal to the nearest 15-minute increment (ex. 1 hour and 25 minutes = 1.5 hours)
  • Include hours for driving to a volunteer opportunity, training, planning, and implementing volunteer projects
  • If your hours could fit into more than one category, select the one that best reflects your hours. Examples of hours for each project/committee are listed below.
  • If you don't feel that any category reflects your hours, use the General/Other option and leave a comment.
Project and Committee Descriptions
  • Shorebird Surveys - training, studying, planning, and conducting surveys for Lahontan Valley Wetland Shorebird Surveys
  • Pinyon Jay Surveys - training, studying, planning, and conducting surveys for the Pinyon Jay Community Science Project
  • Communications - Updating the website or social media, writing articles for The Pelican, sending bi-weekly email blasts, attending committee meetings, etc.
  • Conservation - Writing and reviewing advocacy letters and public comments on conservation issues, writing conservation alerts, attending committee meetings, etc.
  • Education - Planning education programs, presenting for school groups and school field trips, tabling at local events, presenting to special interest groups or the public, attending committee meetings, etc.
  • Field Trips - Planning, scouting, and leading field trips, attending committee meetings, etc.
  • Work Projects - Projects that enhance wildlife habitat, such as planting of bird/pollinator gardens and park clean-ups
  • Fundraising/Membership - Recruiting and maintaining donors and members, Fall Fund Drive, donor thank you's, attending committee meetings, etc.
  • Programs & Activities - Planning and presenting at monthly membership meetings, hosting membership meetings, etc.
  • Area Birding Guides – Visiting and writing up descriptions of local birding hotspots and how to get there.  Take or obtain photographs of the area & birds commonly seen there.   
  • General/Other - All other activities for LAS. Please leave a comment on what these hours are for.
