Field Trip Reports - Lockwood Park and Swan Lake November 2023

Lahontan Audubon led a couple of bird walks during the past week that included trips to Lockwood Park - led by Jeff Bleam, Virginia Lake - led by Steven Cavros, and Swan Lake Nature Study Area - led by Diane Wong-Kone and Linda St-Cyr.  The trip reports for Lockwood Park and Swan Lake are up on eBird.

Our field trips are led by our own community members.  If you have a favorite place to walk, please consider sharing your walk with others by volunteering to help lead or co-lead our field trips!  It's fun to share wildlife sightings with friends!

Lahontan Audubon Society Receives the Giving Board Award!

We are excited to share we earned the 100% Giving Board Award 2023 from the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada. Our Board is making a difference in our community by supporting the programs that support our local bird communities.  Through youth education, bird walks, meeting programs, research presentations, community science, and conservation, Lahontan Audubon Society is your local nonprofit that builds our community and works to preserve the open spaces for birds and us!  Lahontan Audubon Society is one of 116 local nonprofit organizations recognized for exemplary Board giving!  Since 2008, the Community Foundation’s 100% Giving Board Award recognizes Northern Nevada nonprofits for the financial support their board members contribute to their organization’s work. The Community Foundation celebrates nonprofit board members working together for our community and personally demonstrating their belief in the work being done.

Rancho San Rafael Park Field Trip Report

Today, our Field Trip Chair, Lauren Whitenack and our youngest field trip leader, Steven Cavros, led a bird walk through May Arboretum and Rancho San Rafael Park.  Click here for the eBird Report :)  Steven is part of the American Birding Association's Young Birder Program and is one of the up and coming young leaders!  Look for his field trips.  He will be leading another walk at Virginia Lake next week!
