CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: LAHONTAN AUDUBON SOCIETY BOARD OF TRUSTEES

3/10/2021

Comments

The annual elections for the LAS Board of Trustees typically occurs at our May general membership meeting. As you know, due to the impacts of COVID-19 we have not held an in-person meeting in nearly a year.  As a result, last year we held our first ever online vote for Trustees, and it looks like this year may be our second.  Despite the obstacles presented by the pandemic, your LAS Board has been meeting virtually every month.  Although our activities have been limited this past year, we have been able to offer a few socially distant field trips and have now held three virtual monthly speaker presentations.  With the coming of spring, we hope to be able to expand our activities to include more in person field trips and other events.  But our work is not done, and with three Trustee seats expiring at the end of June with no candidates to fill them, we need your help.

The LAS Board of Trustees consists of nine members who appoint annually among themselves the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.  All trustees are elected to a three-year term while officers serve one year.  The three expiring seats have terms that begin July 1, 2021 and run through June 30, 2024.

As a trustee, you will participate in a monthly Board meeting (currently 5:00 – 7:00 PM on the first Tuesday of the month) and add your voice and ideas to helping develop new programs and projects designed to further our mission: To preserve and improve the remaining habitat of birds and other wildlife, restore historical habitat, and educate the public, with emphasis on children, providing vision to all about our unique Nevada environments.

Serving on the Board of Trustees is rewarding and a great opportunity to learn more about Audubon, birds, and local conservation and education.  We are a relaxed group looking for new members to share their interest and enthusiasm.  You do not need to be birder to participate.  Many of us simply enjoy watching the birds in our yards and neighborhoods or take comfort in their song.

On behalf of the LAS Board, I urge you to consider submitting your name for one of the available seats.  If you have considered participating in the past, but have not, please make this important step and help LAS continue to thrive.  If you have any questions or would like to attend as a guest one of our upcoming Board meetings, please give me a call and I will be happy to discuss this wonderful opportunity with you.  Alternatively, feel free to reach out to any of the LAS Board Members to hear firsthand their experience being a member of the Board.  Thank you for your consideration.
