2016 N. Nevada Area Christmas Bird Counts

Meet other birders, count birds, have some fun!  We'd love to have you participate.  
Below are  all Northern Nevada and nearby Eastern Sierra Christmas Bird Counts.    Please contact the leaders  to participate in this year's bird count.  

December 16, 2016:

Christmas Bird Count - Fallon
Lahontan Audubon Society
When:  Fri, December 16, 7am – 4pm
Where:  The Daily Grind, 1805 W Williams Ave, Fallon, NV 89406, USA (map)
Description:  We will meet at The Daily Grind (next to Jerry's Restaurant) in Fallon at 7:00 a.m.  There will be a post-count tally session - information will be provided when we meet that morning.  Please contact Dave for more information and to RSVP.

Christmas Bird Count - Elko
Bristlecone Audubon Society

Description:  Elko/Spring Creek CBCs December 17, 2016 Hosted by the Bristlecone Audubon Chapter, the Elko Christmas Bird Count will be on Saturday, December 17th beginning at 7:00 a.m. Those counting the Elko portion will meet at 1050 Sewell Dr., Elko. We are still making arrangements for the meeting place for the Spring Creek portion of the count circle, so please check back for more info, or contact Lois. There will be a potluck dinner that evening.

Christmas Bird Count - South Lake Tahoe

When:  Sat, December 17, 8am – 5pm
Where:  Alpina Coffee Cafe. 822 Emerald Bay Rd, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150, USA (map)
Description:  The 2016-2017 South Lake Tahoe CBC has been scheduled for Saturday, 17 December.  Barring a significant winter storm, we will hold the count on that date.  We will bird at Cove East as a group and then split into groups to bird at other areas.  A pizza party, complementary of TINS will conclude the day. December 18, 2016:

Christmas Bird Count - Carson City
Lahontan Audubon Society
When:  Sun, December 18, 7am – 5pm
Where:  Burger King, 3589 N Carson St, Carson City, NV 89706, USA (map)
Description:  The 2016 Carson City Christmas Bird Count (CBC) will take place on Sunday, December 18th. We will meet at 7 AM at the Burger King across the street and a little north from the old McDonald's in northern Carson City (on the southeast corner of W. College Parkway and N. Carson Street) before dispersing into the count area.  The "tally rally" potluck dinner again will be at Rob Lowry's  house in east Carson City at the end of the day.   If you know now that you plan on participating in the Carson City CBC,  please e-mail Rob Lowry (rlowry517 at aol.com) privately with your name or names of other participants.  Rob will send out reminder e-mails the closer we get to that date.

Christmas Bird Count - Minden

When:  Sunday, December 31, 2016  7 am – 7 pm
Where:  Sharkey's Casino, 1440 U.S. Hwy 395 N, Gardnerville, NV 89410, USA (map)
Description:  Cold winds are blowing and snow is on the mountains so all of you are invited to come down to Douglas County and take part in kicking off the New Year by working on the 7th annual Minden Christmas Bird Count.  It will take place 7am till we are done with dinner (around 6 or 7pm).  There is a Pot-Luck Dinner at Jim Woods' place at 5:30 and the basic menu is Pasta Dish and Chicken Soup or whatever you want to bring.

Christmas Bird Count - Pyramid Lake

Description:  This year's Pyramid Lake CBC will be held on January 1, 2017.  Please contact Dennis and Becca to get the meeting time and place for this CBC. Plan to bring lots of warm clothes, water, and lunch.  There will be a countdown dinner at Dennis and Becca’s house in Fernley afterward.  Please let Dennis and Becca know if you would like to join for dinner when you RSVP for the CBC.   Details for the dinner will be in the packet given to the volunteers on count day. Leaders:   Becca and Dennis Serdheley at birders@att.net.

Christmas Bird Count - Winnemucca

When: Sunday, January 2, 2017, 9:00 a.m - 12:00 p.m. 
Where:  Global Coffee, 508 WInnemucca Blvd., Winnemucca, NV 

Description:  Join us for the Winnemucca Christmas Bird Count on January 2, 2017! We'll meet at Global Coffee (508 W Winnemucca Blvd, Winnemucca) for a day of birding, followed by a post-count rendezvous dinner to compile the day's count data and have a hot meal. Plan to meet at 8:00 am and bring layers as weather can be unpredictable, water, and lunch/snacks.
