On Friday, Dec. 3rd, Jeff Bleam led a field trip at Cottonwood Park in Sparks. The following is his field trip report, photos from the walk and his bird checklist.
Friday's walk was along the Truckee River starting at Cottonwood Park and heading west to Rock Park. We saw COMMON GOLDENEYES, HOODED MERGANSERS, a few RED-TAILED HAWKS, and a fly over of a COOPER'S HAWK. After passing under the McCarran Bridge, we saw a BELTED KINGFISHER and ended the walk with 3. There were many WC SPARROWS, 4 GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS, BUSHTITS, fly by of a GREAT-BLUE HERON, and an immature BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON. We ended the walk with 34 species. My next walk will be in JAN but there are a few upcoming Christmas Bird Counts (CBCs) in the area, so check out the LAS calendar and Birding News Post for dates and locations. |
