To celebrate St. Patrick's Day, we are featuring information about the ecology and birds of Ireland. There are no snakes in Ireland. According to legend, St. Patrick banished snakes from the country! There is an actual scientific reason for no snakes living in Ireland, can you guess why? Find out below.

Why there are no snakes in Ireland
Snakes are a predator of birds, so having no snakes in the country has enabled birds to thrive! According to Bird Watch Ireland, over 450 species can be found in the country! Some of the birds are residents, while other stop by during their migrations. Photos of Irelands birds are included above, and a list of the 20 most common birds in the country are found below.

From all of us at Lahontan Audubon Society, Happy St. Patricks Day!
