Lahontan Audubon Society has scheduled a field trip for Wednesday, March 17, 2021, for a walk through Oxbow Nature Study Area, Reno. This field trip is only open to six participants on a first-come, first-served basis. This is the third weekly walk for folks new to birding or just interested in knowing what some of the local birds are. March brings with it the beginning of spring migration and we will see various resident and migrant bird species as they arrive in our area. Oxbow Nature Study Area is a great little park along the Truckee River with cottonwoods and a cattail pond. Meet in the Oxbow Park parking lot for this easy nature trail walk. To get there, take I-80 to the Keystone Exit and head south. Turn right on Second Street, which turns into Dickerson Road, then follow it until it ends at the park. This park is a great local hotspot to find late fall migrants and to learn about Reno's backyard birds. Plan to spend a few hours, so bring binoculars if you have them and maybe some water.
