What a beautiful day to be out birding! Last Saturday, Lahontan Audubon, led by our shorebird expert, Mike Goddard, went out to Carson Lake, part of the Lahontan Valley Wetlands. The Lahontan Valley Wetlands complex is a Western Hemispheric Shorebird Reserve Site, or a site of significant importance for shorebirds (https://whsrn.org/lahontan-valley-celebrates-30-years/). These wetlands are known for harboring hundreds of thousands of shorebirds during migration each year! In April, we will be out helping to count and monitor shorebirds in this critically important area. Our birders on Saturday had some nice looks at Snow Goose, Long-billed Dowitcher, Long-billed Curlew, Least Sandpiper, American Avocet, Killdeer, and Black-necked Stilt. If you are interested in volunteering for counts, we will be out again next fall. Please "Contact Us" if you would like to learn more about our Shorebird Surveys.
