The goals of this marathon were to explore several bird hotspots within the greater Reno Area and cater to youth birders. We explored 4 different parks, including Damonte Ranch Wetlands, Veteran's Parkway Lake, Diamond Creek Pond, and Oxbow Nature Study Area. We submitted 5 different eBird checklists. During our adventure, we observed some exciting birds, such as Great-tailed Grackles, American White Pelicans, Western Tanagers and a Forster's Tern. We also were greeted with an unpleasant surprise from the Canada Geese at Diamond Creek Pond. The young goslings had been previously fed by people, and mobbed our group wildly peeping as if to say "Feed me! Feed me!" As if on cue, we later encountered an adult goose who was suffering from angel wing syndrome. This is all a friendly reminder of why you should not feed wild geese. Overall, we were happy and excited with the 53 species we observed through five different checklists. Here is the full species list through the report.
