On Saturday, August 6th, our chapter co-hosted a field trip at Tahoe Meadows. We were assisted by biologist Ned Bohman from Great Basin Bird Observatory (GBBO), and volunteer birder Joe Tuvell. What truly impressed our group was the large number of Cassin's Finches and warblers, foraging throughout the meadow and the forest groves. We were also surprised to see quite a few Brewer's Blackbirds hanging out in the meadow as well. At the very end of our walk, we were treated to our goal species, a breeding pair of Pine Grosbeaks! All in all, it was a wonderful adventure, exploring for birds while enjoying the scenic beauty of the meadows. GBBO is a wonderful conservation group, who offer plenty of opportunities to appreciate bird in the Northern Nevada region. For more information about GBBO and birding events they offer, visit their website below. This field trip was free and open for everyone to participate. All you have to do is register on our website. We will be hosting plenty of other field trips in the future, all free. Visit our event calendar below to see our upcoming bird field trips and register for some trips yourself. |
