By Tina Nappe As LAS celebrates a sixty year anniversary, some of us are looking back in admiration at the many contributions LAS members have made to sustaining LAS and increasing interest in birding and in bird protection. For all these years, hardworking LAS volunteers have offered field trips, monthly programs, and a newsletter. At the same time, LAS has been involved in several campaigns to save birds and has offered educational programs through schools, and participated in annual events like Earth Day and special events like the recent Safari Club International Convention in Reno, a three day staffed exhibit. For the next few Pelicans, articles on major LAS activities and projects will be posted where LAS members were important if not critical to success. Potentially, these articles will be gathered into “An LAS 60 Year Anniversary” and made available for members but also placed in UNR’s Special Collections for member reflection and available for future historical editions. If you are interested in suggesting articles, writing an article, correcting/adding to a printed article or otherwise participating, please contact Tina Nappe at [email protected] or Rose Strickland at [email protected]. |
