Our April Membership Meeting will be happening on April 26th at 7pm. This month's theme is The Influence of Birdsong on Composers with Jonathan Sokol.
LAS member and composer, Jonathan Sokol, will explore how composers from the Renaissance to the present have been influenced by birdsong and the differing methods in which they fused birdsong into their music as notation and technology developed over time. Music of Vivaldi, Beethoven, Respighi, Messiaen, Rautavaara, Adams, and even his own compositions, will be presented. About the Speaker: "I've been a birder-in-passing since my single-digit years, with my earliest memories centered around the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo aviary and Jean Craighead George's book My Side of the Mountain (both featuring the Peregine Falcon, incidentally). And while my formal training is in classical music, specifically as a composer, I have an equal or greater passion for birds. As a musician, my gravitation to birdsong was inevitable as both a learning tool and an artform!" To watch the recording of our membership meeting, click below: |
